Der Chef und Gründer von ArtFire.com über den zweitgrößten Marktplatz für Handgemachtes im Netz und sein Rezept für eine erfolgreiche Community.
I am… the CEO and founder of artfire.com; committed to the success of my sellers; a lover of handmade goods
If I should describe me with 3 words, these 3 words would be:… Driven, to help our sellers succeed. Innovative, to create a world class product. Learning, to always remember to listen.
My biggest passions are… Developing new and innovative ways to create successful businesses and build strong communities. As a seller on big venues in the past, I have seen how sellers can find themselves at the mercy of a venue. ArtFire was built as an answer to some of the challenges that artisans experience on line with other venues. We love to help others be successful and our passion is supporting small business.
At the moment I am working on… At any time we are working on hundreds of development projects at ArtFire and we are constantly looking for ways in which we can add even more value to our members. One of our larger current projects is Phase 2 of the new fusion studios for ArtFire and we are also working on a new front page based on member input as well as an entire site redesign.
Running a marketplace without fees is possible because… At ArtFire we watch expenses and reduce costs every where we can. We run a very lean operation and pride ourselves on building elegant, fast, and scalable code which decreases server overhead when built correctly. We offer two account levels; an absolutely free basic account and a Verified account which allows members to list and sell unlimited items with no listing or final value fees. Our focus is on the success of our members and we don’t believe that taxing creativity is truly serving the needs of the artisans. By choosing to put members needs ahead of excessive profits a marketplace without fees is possible.
The biggest success stories on our marketplace are… Each and every seller who takes the first step and opens their online store at artfire.com to sell their handmade products globally is a success for the entire community. ArtFire has come a long way, and we have much work to do yet. To date we are the second largest handmade marketplace on the internet, which is quite an accomplishment.
By the way my most favorite handcrafted product at the moment is… I can’t pick a favorite. It is the handmade process, purpose, and goal I believe in not one specific product.
For the future I plan… to make artfire.com the premier handmade market place, and provide services that revolutionize handmade selling.
We will start to take over etsy.com in… That depends on how you measure it. We already offer more features for less money. However they have a five year, $40+ million, head start.
I made the experience, that… I learned discipline from the military, hard work from my family, and patience from my wife.
My recommendation to other hobbynomics… Research your market first. Create what the market wants at a price they will buy it at, not just what you love to make.
These are my top 3 links for hobbynomics:…
these are all sites that were built to support artisans.
Thanks for your time!
